Ref - Refurbished
Refurbished - what is it?
Literally, Refurbished means "restored" or "updated." Refab is a device that has gone through the manufacturer's distribution channels more than once. That is, the product returned from the seller to the manufacturer and then went on sale again. There are quite a few reasons why a device follows this route. The main ones are:
-
Batch defect.
-
Used device returned to the manufacturer for various reasons. These may include trade-in programs for old devices for new ones (as in Apple), returns by customers due to "did not like, did not fit," as well as returns due to a factory defect that could not be fixed by service.
-
Product with incomplete packaging. Such products are returned to the manufacturer for completion.
-
Product that has been in warehouses for a long time and requires re-inspection.
-
Product that was damaged during transportation.
-
Device that was used as a demo unit and therefore lost its commercial appearance.
When a product is returned to the manufacturer's factory, the manufacturer restores it to a like-new condition, retests it, and sends it back for sale. But now with the label refurbished ("factory refurbished", "remanufactured", "renew program", etc.). You may also encounter the term factory recertified.
